Primary Science Education

At the university of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Federico Corni develops and uses a narratively based approach to science education for primary school and kindergarten teachers.

Inservice teachers at a number of schools in the Modena district are developing a concrete curriculum for the five years of primary school based upon this design.

Recently, Federico Corni edited a volume of essays on narrative in primary science education ( Le scienze nella prima educazione).

The term primary is used here in a dual sense. It means early in the sense of education addressed to children when they build their primary understanding of the world. It also refers to the understanding of concepts of science that may rightly be called primary, i.e., the concepts that form the roots of scientific thought…
